Ingredients

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes halved
  • 1 cup black olives pitted
  • cups mini mozzarella balls
  • 1 –2 slices white cheddar cheese

Method

  1. Place a clean rectangular platter on your countertop—it’s your “canvas.”
  2. In the top-left section, arrange the black olives in a tight rectangle (roughly 2–3 olives wide and 4–5 long).
  3. Use a small star-shaped cutter (¾″–1″) to cut stars from the white cheddar slices. Carefully place each star onto the olives to imitate the stars on the flag.
  4. Begin building the stripes: lay one row of halved cherry tomatoes across the rest of the platter, followed by a row of mozzarella balls. Alternate until the platter is filled. Start with tomatoes (red stripe), then cheese (white stripe), continuing the pattern.
  5. If serving immediately, set it out. Otherwise, cover the platter with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready—remove cover 10–15 minutes before serving to reduce moisture buildup.

Notes

  • To make it toddler-friendly: quarter or dice tomatoes, and consider skipping olives if young children prefer milder flavors.
  • Low-carb friendly: leave out the tomatoes and add sliced cucumber or avocado rounds between cheese rows.
  • Star cutter size key: about ¾″–1″ width helps the stars stand out without overwhelming the olive field.
